hypocrite

alright, i'm starting to feel like a hypocrite, posting all this shit about anarchy and such, while having ads on my site. i don't mind making passive money and don't feel the need to take them down. i think it would be funny to have reputable businesses funding vandalism. so, that's what i'll do.

from now on, i think i'll follow the anonymous...or the people. i'll see what they have to say and i'll share it.

Picture a white tile

amidst a floor of tan tiles. The only white tile in the room is at the center. That white tile is God of the other tiles. Perhaps, that white tile is a misfit. Perhaps, God is a misfit. More importantly, perhaps, the misfit is God.

Faile...or not?

Underrated artist collective, Faile, recently opened a show at Rubenstein Gallery:

Huffington Post: Faile

I don't know what to think anymore.

News Under Street

The Underbelly Project’s been haunting me lately:

NY Times: The Underbelly Project

I’m not sure what to make of it. There’s always high tension when street artists move to galleries…even one as “avant-garde” as this. This particular project mainly instigated turf wars.

Here’s what the locals had to say:
Gothamist: Project Colossally Dissed

The project brings up the common moral dilemma of selling out.
I love Banksy, but he is a sell-out. Even despite the fact that he expressed views opposing this in his film Exit Through the Gift Shop [2010].I guess on one side of the spectrum, one would probably rather make money for street art than anything else. However, at this point, corruption is imminent. Eh, I say do what you want and if it earns you something, more power to you. Frankly, the anarchists don’t see much worth in money.

Hello, My Name is Unimportant

I'm not here to debate the aesthetic value of tagging; that's for another day. I'm here to lament the death of street art culture. If it's not dead, show me. I'm calling the friendly anarchists into action. Write your thoughts on the walls that we've trapped ourselves with. Stop signing your name on things that don't matter, not even to you. Let's face it. We're sick of half-assed rebellion. There's an army gathering to face us and apparently they're calling them "hipsters." I think the real message here, aside from the woes of conformity is this:
Anyone can make "art"...draw pictures and write poetry, but is this what we define as art?

Making art isn't the process of making something to be what we think is art.
I don't give a rat's ass if a painting is a fake. If it looks exactly like the god forsaken original, then what does it matter? The picture's the same. The art is about the message: what inspires the art. You show me a picture of a stick figure with blue on its face, I say, "That's crap." You tell me that the picture was drawn by someone paralyzed from the neck down, expressing her sympathies for her brother that didn't quite make it, I say, "holy crap."
